Poker Scoring

Learn the Littlewoods Poker scoring system.

The Littlewoods Poker Room will house a number of poker players who fully understand the game, its rules and the poker scoring system so it's vital you get to grips with the game scoring before you play.

The poker scoring system can be illustrated by a version of poker known as Chicago. This is a game for 2 to 4 players using a standard deck of 52 cards and no jokers. Points are scored for having the best hand according to a poker ranking. Players are dealt five cards and each player can replenish his or her hand and can choose to replenish their entire hand of five cards or any number up to five.

The player with the best hand scores points according to the following poker scoring table:

  • One pair = 1 point
  • Two pairs = 2 points
  • Three of a kind = 3 points
  • Straight = 4 points
  • Flush = 5 points
  • Full House = 6 points
  • Four of a kind = 7 points
  • Straight Flush = 8 points
  • Royal Straight Flush = 52 points

Players are asked to name their combinations in order to assess the highest scoring hand. If there is a tie between two players then each player is asked to reveal some more information in stages in an attempt to break the tie. Poker ranking will then come into effect and the poker scoring system will be used to allocate points in order to make a decision.

A running total of each player's score is kept. As many hands as necessary are played until one player reaches a total of 52 points or more are reached at the end of a hand. Each player's score is then recorded and every player who scores under the winning total of 52 owes the difference between his or her score and the winner's score of 52 and above. The poker scoring system is all encompassing in this example and it provides a measurable framework for all who are involved in the game.
