Stud Poker

Play 3, 5 and 7 card stud poker at Littlewoods Poker, the new room from the trusted name in gaming.

Littlewoods offers a wide range of poker games on its site, with one of the more popular variations being stud poker. Stud poker itself comes in various different formats such 3 card stud, 5 card stud and 7 card stud poker.

3 Card Stud Poker

Basically three cards are dealt and paid out in this version of poker according to their respective value. The dealer's hand is not involved in the action when playing 3 card stud poker and after viewing their cards, players can either raise or fold their hand. Given the limitation of the game, three-of-a-kind is the highest hand players can obtain.

5 Card Stud Poker

In 5 card stud poker, the first card is dealt face down with the four following cards dealt face up. Betting action in the first two rounds is set at an agreed lower table limit. After the initial couple of rounds players can then bet at a higher limit and as soon as this higher limit has been reached all future betting must reach this higher level limit.

Once all betting is done, a showdown takes place. The first person to show their hand is the last person to show strength with a bet or raise. All 5 cards are used at showdown. The player holding the best hand wins the pot. Should multiple hands tie, the pot is split.

7 Card Stud Poker

In 7 card stud poker, the dealer indicates which player will open the betting, determined by the lowest door card. If there's a tie for the low door card, the card suit resolves it: spades outrank hearts, followed by diamonds, and finally clubs as the lowest suit.

Players go through a series of betting rounds whereby they bet according to overturned cards. This goes all the way through to a seventh round where all bets and raises are resolved and players enter the showdown. The dealer then calls the winner, as determined by the best 5-card hand under normal Poker rules.

7 card Stud poker is one of the more popular poker formats because it is a very engaging form of the game. As the game increases from 3 card stud, onto 5 card stud and finally 7 card stud, then the skill level and player engagement increases. Betting strategy, card placing, player behaviour and aggressive or conservative play are all applied at various times as poker players aim to maximise their gain.
